On May 12-14 the LOGISTICS & EUROLOG 2010 Congress took place in Poznań. The most eminent representatives of the logistics world – practitioners, as well as researchers, businessmen and politicians came for three days to the capital of Wielkopolska.

Fifteen hundred minutes of discussions, more than 750 participants from all over the world, 50 theme presentations, 35 exhibitors, 9 plenary speeches and 5 technical visits – this is the impressive summary of the event. Certainly the figures are not the most important. What really counts is the opportunity: to meet other representatives of the logistics branch, to present your achievements, to establish business cooperation and to make oneself aware of the importance of the role logistics plays in the face of challenges of the contemporary world.

This event draws our attention of the importance of logistics for the European economy and its competitiveness in global markets: logistics - understood as harmonized, able to respond quickly to changeable environments and customers’ needs, innovative, immediately absorbing the results of developments, and at the same time being reasonably environmentally friendly – says Dr Grzegorz Szyszka, Director of the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing.

The key players within logistics sector came to Poznań: Alfonz Antoni (President of the Euroape Logistics Association), Prof. Tomasz Nowakowski (President of the Polish Logistics Association), Prof. Hans-Christian Pfohl, Jos Marinus and Alan Waller (European Logistics Association), Miguel Lopera (President of GS1), Paweł Stelmaszczyk (European Commission, DG Move), Bernard Piette (Logistics in Wallonia Network), as well as many leaders of logistics companies from Poland and all the world.

Modeling ourselves on the best logistics events, such as German BVL Congress we try to prepare our Congress as a professional platform for exchange of experience and for development of logistics in general. Participation in the Congress gives a unique opportunity to listen to and to meet representatives of the Transport-Logistics-Forwarding branch on the neutral ground. As it was in the ancient Greece, during the Olympic Games, during the Congress all quarrels and disputes are suspended – said the Congress spokesman, Artur Olejniczak.

During the congress we celebrated the 20th anniversary of foundation of GS1 Poland organization, implementing the standards of identifying of services and goods on the Polish market, managing of GS1 system and supporting of its members. The solemn session of the Polish GS1 System Board was held on 11th May 2010, a day before the congress. Because of this occasion we had as a guest and speaker the President of GS1 Mr. Miguel Lopera who chaired the session of the Polish GS1 System Board.

Two days of conference was not all that was offered by the organizers for their guests. Additionally, four workshops and ELA Research Day Conference took place on Friday, May 14, as accompanying events. The conference, organized by the Polish Logistics Association in co-operation with European Logistics Association presented scientific achievements of European research bodies.

The European Award for Logistics Excellence 2010 was given to Mars Deutchland for the project „Mars Agenda 2017.

The winner of the PTL 2010 Award was STANMET Ltd. Company for its project „QRS – Quality Rack Service Managing the technical condition of racking equipment”.
